Last December 2012, Teacher Alex implemented her Teacher Made Material in the Preschool C class. She started by introducing the different helpers found in the community such as the Nurse, Teacher, Policeman, Baker, Veterinarian, Fireman, Librarian, Zoo Keeper, Mailman, and Waiter. After which, she asked the children to put the different places where the community helpers are located in the empty map.
Teacher Alex drew a path in the map that the children have to follow. Each student got the chance to move the car and put the community helper in their corresponding location in the community while following the path. In doing so, they were able to familiarize themselves with the concept of ordinals (First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth)
Preschool C did not only learn more about community helpers and ordinals, they also had fun playing with the community that Teacher Alex made. It is surely a learning activity that the children can enjoy playing on their own as well as with their classmates! The best part is that everything was made from scratch and was made by their very own student teacher.
